Episode 75 – Eddie Pittman, “Red’s Planet”

Eddie Pittman’s “Red’s Planet” has already leaped boldly into the webcomics scene with it’s stunning art and engaging story. You can immediately tell there’s a real artist at work, and it’s no wonder…Eddie spent a number of years at Disney as an in-betweener and clean-up artist, does storyboards and illustration professionally, is a top-notch character designer, and taught aspiring Disney artists. I’d say he’s qualified to kick some graphic novel butt.  We talk “Red’s Planet,” Disney, animation in general, art, and Saturday Morning Cartoons!

Don’t miss my little tribute to Mike Witmer’s “Pinkerton,” celebrating his 500th comic! And stay tuned at the end for a visit from someone from sitcoms long past!

Wonderful discussion, both about Red’s Planet and animation. I think comparing inking with a brush with Chaos Theory was brilliantly dead on!

Also nice to know that I’m not the only one who lets an idea gestate forever (the difference being that Red’s Planet was worth the incubation period.)

Super awesome interview. I especially like that he mentioned he was making this comic for his daughter. He wants to create something special for her. It’s touching and I can relate.

Thanks for all the great comments people! Eddie was a blast to talk to…it’s always great to talk to someone with such talent. One of those “that’s how I wanna draw when I grow up” people.
